Job Description:

American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE) American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

Since its founding in 1941, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has been dedicated to its mission to be the leader in advancing patient care and digestive health by promoting excellence and innovation in gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Endoscopy has been a major advance in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. Endoscopy enables the detection and urgent treatment of ulcers, cancers, polyps, and sites of internal bleeding. Endoscopy is extremely safe, with very low rates of complications, when performed by properly trained endoscopists, such as those who are members of the ASGE.

With more than 15,000 members worldwide, the ASGE promotes the highest standards for endoscopic training and practice, fosters endoscopic research, recognizes distinguished contributions to endoscopy, and is the foremost resource for endoscopic education. The Society serves the medical profession and the public by providing education, development of guidelines and position statements, and advocacy related to the responsible performance of gastrointestinal endoscopy, for the benefit of patients, the public, and medical professionals.

ASGE is the only medical society that requires documentation of specific training in GI endoscopic procedures. For decades, the ASGE has set strict requirements for membership, including demonstrated training in GI endoscopy. ASGE members undergo a rigorous application and screening process, and are recognized by the medical community as knowledgeable, experienced experts in gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures and gastroenterology or GI surgery.

The ASGE provides a full range of educational courses, a peer-reviewed research journal, GIE: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy , among other publications, an annual scientific meeting (Digestive Disease Week), and a website serving members and the public (www.asge.org) . ASGE also hosts a colon cancer awareness website (www.screen4coloncancer.org) .

The ASGE’s facility, the IT&T Center, is located in the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove, where it is situated on 3.5 acres alongside protected woodlands and with easy access to both O’Hare and Midway Airports. The heart of the IT&T is the advanced 2,800-square-foot Bioskills Laboratory with up to 16 stations that can be customized to meet unique requirements. The Center is ideal for hands-on surgical training, new product education or demonstration, medical association symposia, interactive trainings and presentations, and other activities that advance medicine and improve patient care. The IT&T Center functions both as a live and virtual learning environment, and a comprehensive venue for educational conferences and business meetings, including a 100+ seat auditorium.

The ASGE also includes the ASGE Foundation, Digestive Healthworks (DHW), and the Association for Bariatric Endoscopy (ABE).
