The Assistant Principal supports the Building Principal in the
performance of his/her duties and responsibilities.
Primary functions are to:

Job Summary:
I.MANAGEMENT SKILLS by:
A. Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment.
B. Developing and monitoring a building budget in accordance with
District guidelines.
C. Maintaining and submitting records and reports that are accurate
and on time.
D. Using strategies and systems to manage conflict.
E. Following Board policies and legal requirements and
communicating these to staff, students, and school community.
F. Allocating time to address priorities.
G. Utilizing the physical facilities efficiently.
II. LEADERSHIP by:
A.Employing a leadership style which is appropriate for the
situation; delegating and encouraging self-direction when
appropriate.
B. Employing methods which foster a non-threatening environment
conducive to openness and cooperation and which invites
participating in the decision-making process when appropriate.
C. Utilizing various approaches to build and maintain morale.
D. Raising and/or allowing questions which help others to consider
consequences.
E. Developing and implementing strategies to evaluate programs and
make changes as needed.
F. Demonstrating a leadership role on district committees and at
district meetings and contributing to the collaborative
process.
III. PERSONNEL SKILLS by:
A.Following a plan of supervision and evaluation for all personnel
for which he/she has supervisory responsibility.
B. Developing a staff organizational plan which is consistent with
District policies for class size and teacher aide allocation.
C. Working cooperatively with the personnel office in the
selection, transfer, retention, or dismissal of district
employees.
D. Providing support and assistance for all staff both personally
and professionally.
E. Providing appropriate orientation for new staff members.
F. Implementing a staff development plan which provides activities
to assist staff in accomplishing district's/school objectives.
IV. INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS by:
A.Monitoring teachers' planning for effective instruction and
ensuring implementation of adopted curriculum through schedules
observation and monitoring of classroom instruction and other
methods of data gathering.
B. Utilizing clinical supervision strategies for providing feedback
to staff on observed instruction.
C. Identifying, analyzing, and providing help for the solution of
specific instructional problems.
D. Employing strategies designed to protect learning times.
E. Assisting staff in monitoring student progress in achieving
curricular objectives.
F. Utilizing support staff where appropriate.
G. Supervising and monitoring programs for exceptional
children.
H. Establishing and communicating high expectations for student
achievement and behavior.
V. SCHOOL-COMMUNITY RELATIONS SKILLS by:
A.Involving parents and community members in school and/or district
programs.
B. Ensuring that parents are provided with information of the
child's progress.
C. Supporting PTA by being an active participant.
D. Recognizing outstanding performances by students and staff.
E. Fostering good communications with and between parents,
teachers, and students.
VI. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH by:
A.Maintaining an involvement in professional associations and their
activities.
B. Participating in inservice workshops, committees, and/or college
courses to upgrade professional skills.

A.Defining, implementing, and evaluating district and building
goals and objectives.
VIII. TEAM BUILDING SKILLS by:
A.Performing all other tasks that are assigned by the
Administrative Assistants and/or the Superintendent.
B. Exhibiting a willingness to contribute and implement ideas for
the betterment of the District
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience in a K-8
setting.
Type 75 Certification - General Administrative
