Description
The position of Controller will report to the Sr. Vice-President of
Finance and will have primary responsibilities to manage the
accounting functions including general accounting, financial
reporting, income and sales taxes, audits, and payroll.
Responsibilities include ensuring the integrity of controls, the
accuracy and timeliness of the financial statements, in addition to
the preparation of financial reports used both in Sharp NEC Display
Solutions of America (SNDSA) as well as submitted to our parent
company, Sharp NEC Display Solutions, Ltd (SNDSJ) together with
Sharp Corporation in the US and Japan (66% owner of the joint
venture). Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining the accuracy, completeness, and
integrity of the SNDSA financial statements, including
responsibilities for direct and indirect reports.
- Manage monthly financial close and ensure completion in a
timely manner to meet month end reporting deadlines.
- Oversee the accounts receivable and credit & collections
function, together with the AR team at Sharp Electronics
Corporation (shared service provider in NJ). Manage to metrics to
improve cash flow and minimize write-offs.
- Support the accounts payable function performed by Sharp
Electronics Corporation to ensure timely processing and recording
of all invoices.
- Maintain system of internal control and maintain compliance
with Japan Sarbanes Oxley (JSOX) requirements and related reporting
including NEC / NDSJ Financial monitoring process.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with all SNDS and Sharp financial
policies including expenditure authorizations and purchase
requests.
- With the support of the Sr. Financial Analyst, manage the
monthly forecasting process and annual budget in coordination with
SIICA and Japan guidance.
- Manage treasury functions day to day, the credit card program,
and relationships with our banking partners.
- Oversee preparation and distribution of month-end management
reports, and SNDSJ / Sharp monthly reporting.
- Manage the relationship with the external tax advisors
(currently Forvis) to ensure tax provisions are correctly
calculated and recorded.
- Ensure that all tax filings sales and use taxes as well as
state and federal income taxes are completed and filed on a timely
basis (with support from tax advisors) and ensure that tax payments
are made on time.
- Keep Sr. VP of Finance apprised of all control weaknesses and
deficiencies, reporting errors, fraud or other suspected accounting
irregularities or ethical issues within SNDSA that may become
known.
- Manage some of the complex monthly accruals (e.g. warranty,
deferred revenue / revenue recognition) and calculate journal
entries.
- Interact with other functional areas (sales, marketing,
service, sales operations, etc.) to assist with business processes,
controls, and reporting issues.
- Coach, mentor and develop direct reports. Manage work
assignments and staffing needs.
- Perform other projects and reporting as requested by the Sr. VP
of Finance.
- Review and approval of journal entries and account
reconciliations of direct reports.
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely responses to SNDSJ and
Sharp Corporation/Sharp US/SIICA
- Coordinate audits from external and internal auditors, as well
as audits related to income and sales taxes.
- Maintenance and oversight of financial systems (e.g. SAP,
Emburse (expense reports), payroll).
- Some travel may be required but it is expected that this will
be minimal (less than 10%).
Mandatory Qualifications, Inclusive of Education:
- Minimum ten years of accounting and finance experience, with a
minimum of 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Experience with a public accounting firm and/or larger
multinational corporations with complex accounting and reporting
issues.
- Experience with income taxes, sales taxes, and payroll tax
filings.
- Strong interpersonal and as well as both written and verbal
communications skills.
- Excellent mathematical and analysis skills are required.
- Minimal travel, up to 10%.
- Experience with SAP ERP and / or Business Intelligence (BI)
tools is highly desirable.
- CPA and / or MBA is desirable.
